The former US president should’ve planned his trip a week later.
“I also wanted to bring my daughters here [to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina] so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of Buenos Aires,” former US president Barack Obama said in 2016, as per Goal.
“They’ve already met one famous [Argentinian]—His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet [Lionel] Messi, but I could not arrange that,” he added.
Barack Obama was simply unlucky: the following week, Leo Messi’s Argentina side hosted Bolivia, so the dream meeting could’ve actually taken place.
Messi is seemingly well regarded by the former US president. In 2019, for example, Barack Obama called the Argentine a ‘genius’.
